2024: The Year of No Bad Hair Days

Bad hair days are becoming a thing of the past with some of the most popular hair trends of 2024. There seems to be one of the biggest shifts that we’ve had in years; some trends are the complete opposite of what we thought just a few short years ago. In fact, hairdressers are having to change up their traditional formulas and cutting techniques to meet the needs of styles that everyone completely forgot about.
Remember when brassy hair was the most frowned-upon style that you could possibly have? Now you might want to ditch the purple shampoo and consider warmer honey colors instead. With the introduction of ‘cowboy copper” that we had in 2023, warm colors started to be seen as more flattering than the silver, icy tones we’ve been used to for so long.

Dua Lipa has been seen rocking a dark red look that we haven’t seen since the early 2000s. Her hair is similar to the “cowboy copper” that we saw a few months ago, but a bit more. I believe bringing back the red is what has also contributed to the rise of honey blonde and “old money” blonde. Honey blonde is a bright blonde with more warmth in it that reflects light when the sun hits it, and “old money” blonde is a darker blonde, closer to a bronde, that has tones of warmth and darkness, so it looks like an overall darker blonde.

Sydney Sweeney’s classic blonde look is a perfect example of honey blonde. Rooty with perfectly spaced highlights that fade into a bright and warm color. Pictured right is an “old money” blonde. A classy all-over color that looks great even when grown out. These warm styles, though drastically different from our silver-toned icy blonde highlights, are becoming the new classy it-girl look.

Another trend that’s been making a huge comeback is the rise of the bang. When we all look back at the pictures our parents made us take as toddlers, what do we see? I can pretty much guarantee you that you had bangs. Of course, the natural course of action is we get to first grade and immediately start growing them out. Now, everyone is taking the big step and welcoming bangs back in for the new year. It started with curtain bangs that first gained popularity a few years back to embracing the full bang like Sabrina Carpenter.

Sabrina Carpenter’s bangs have been recently fawned over as the new ideal look. And look at them, how could they not be? Sitting perfectly against her forehead, who wouldn’t want to rock that look?

We can’t forget the queen of bangs herself. Taylor Swift has introduced and reintroduced bangs into her hairstyles time and time again, and each time with a new twist. This was the look for the Golden Globes and the bangs are banging. A little thicker than Sabrina’s look, the bangs are styled beautifully with her old Hollywood curls.
Another trend that has taken over the celebrity world, especially the Gen Z influencers, is extensions. While on the pricier side, extensions are long-lasting and a perfect fix to thin hair that just can’t grow naturally.

Alix Earle is an avid extension wearer, constantly changing her hair from short to long, and looking great either way. Extensions are a great way to get that extra length for thin hair that might struggle to grow. They also allow for less heat on the natural hair, so they keep the hair a lot healthier.

These new hair trends are definitely in for 2024! If you’ve been pondering changing up your hairstyle, consider giving one of these a try for the new year.

Strike Out,
