Attraction Through Fashion

Clothes, hairdos, music taste, and mannerisms. Apparently, we don’t just fall in love with the person, but with their style too. Those aspects of our lives no longer belong to us as individuals. They belong to you and your partner, together.

While some may think that matching with a romantic partner is tacky, others think it's cute and proof of a long-lasting relationship.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are one of the most iconic couples in pop culture history. However, many fans began to notice that the longer they went out, the more they started to resemble each other.

What happened after they broke up?

Brad Pitt changed partners AND his look.

People started to point out the similar hair color and style that he would attain whenever he got with a new partner. When he was with Gwenyth Paltrow, he wore a lighter, dyed blonde style, he even had a side part to match. He later morphed into a honey blonde with Jennifer. He let his hair grow wilder, similar to hers. Angelina Jolie brought out a darker side to him. A more “bronde” appearance that later turned fully brunette.

A fashion enthusiast's favorite couple, John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, married in the 90s and still have the world in a chokehold to this day. Their most iconic,  perfectly tailored outfits were a blend of old money and business attire. Their style is for a professional look during the chilly weather.

They subtly matched colors and style in a way that didn’t feel obnoxious. While JFK Jr. brought out his politician family’s wealth through his style, Carolyn stood out as an American fashion publicist. Together, their style was one for the history books.

Other couples that have matched their partner perfectly in not just color accents but overall vibe are Tom Holland and Zendaya. Whether you see them on a red carpet, at a tennis match, or taking a walk, they always look like they belong together.

Recently, a newer couple began matching. Either subconsciously or on purpose, their street style has become the dream of every minimalist. Harry Styles and Zoe Kravitz have mastered the laid-back, cool look.

What most of these couples have in common is that they effortlessly match each other's color palettes and aesthetics. Were they drawn to someone with a similar aesthetic, or did they adapt once they began dating?

You could even find these types of couples in your local mall. Couples shopping in Zara, Urban Outfitters, Brandy Melville, Ralph Lauren, Zumiez, etc., they all look as though they curated their vibe to match.

It makes me wonder whether a breakup isn’t just a form of separation from your now ex-partner, but a separation from yourself too.

Maybe a small part of your sense of style is taken away from you after sharing it with someone for a long time. It's normal to want to change up your look. Get bangs, start wearing low-rise, and put on a choker.

Style is something to be explored, and not a stagnant element in your life, and not something that can be stripped away from you.
