If BookTok Has Taken Over Your FYP Say “I”

If I were to explain the term “BookTok'' to the creator of books, they would definitely be extremely confused about what it means—they would probably even walk away as I explained it too. That’s okay though, because BookTok is Gen Z’s modern-day book club, and it’s an interesting concept to grasp.

When I first came across #BookTok on my FYP, I clicked on the hashtag before even questioning what it was. I discovered countless videos with 39.8 billion views total where people recommended and commented on their favorite books, simple yet effective. What started from one #BookTok video became tens then thousands. I was screenshotting every book recommended for my next Barnes & Nobles visit in no time.

The interesting thing about #BookTok is that it started a Gen Z movement to “make reading cool again.” Personally, reading has never been consistent in my life, so to see other people excited about books had me excited as well.

Let’s get to it. These are the #BookTok recommendations that got me back into reading.

Beach Read

Enemies-to-lovers. Holy sh*t. This book had me GLUED to each page from beginning to end. The chemistry between the main characters, January and Gus, was very well written. Beach Read effortlessly covers topics such as grief, family drama, love, and friendship. The push and pull between January and Gus really had me wanting to throw my book against a wall. This one is a must-read.

The Spanish Love Deception

Oops, another enemies-to-lovers book. Listen, this novel was a whirlwind. I mean, the main characters travel to SPAIN together. Automatic yes. Lina and Aaron Blackford start “hating” each other, but it's a no-brainer what comes next when you involve fake dating in any scenario, plus a trip to Spain. But we’re down for the drama and whatever comes with it. The chemistry on these pages was off the charts. Overall, I’m here for a fake dating and enemies-to-lovers combo.

Heart Talk

Change of pace, but a poetry book is also a major yes. Cleo Wade takes us through the journey of caring for ourselves, healing, letting go of negative behavior, and learning to accept healthy love into our life. What are we allowing that we maybe shouldn’t? What relationships are adding or subtracting from our joy? What type of love do we actually deserve? This book is a warm hug if you’re ever in a funk, “When we know our value and can express our value, we're able to teach others how to honour what we bring to the table.”

It Ends With Us

It Ends With Us is THE moment. I should’ve saved the word drama for this book and this book only. Absolute mayhem is how I would describe it. The rollercoaster of emotions author Colleen Hoover puts you through is a lot, but it’s just so good. It covers family trauma, love, and friendship all at once. I refused to put down this book when reading because it somehow kept getting better. Lily, Ryle, and Atlas—those names will forever be imprinted in my mind.

So, which book will you read next? Let us know on IG!
