A Carrie Bradshaw Style Guide

Many of us can thank Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw for her influencel on our style evolution. This iconic character is a lover of many things (i.e. men and drama), but we remember her for her love of fashion. Carrie's iconic style and love of bold designs elevate the character's fashion status and set her apart as a trendsetter.

One thing that is undeniable is Carrie’s very distinctive personal style, known for her eclectic fashion choices. She mixes high-end designer pieces with vintage finds and secondhand items, which creates an effortless and unique look that reflects her character’s personality. While we may not all be able to include designer pieces in our closets, we can learn from her ability to pair the “put together” with the conventionally ugly pieces to make an entirely unique outfit.

Bradhsaw’s style has a very timeless appeal. Despite the show ending over a decade ago, the character’s style continues to be referenced in popular culture and the mainstream media. Her eccentric attitude towards fashion remains relevant and inspiring, even 20 years later.

Everyone should be channeling Carrie Bradshaw into their outfits, and this starts with embracing her bold, eclectic, and fearless approach to fashion.

Mix and match different styles, textures, and patterns. Carrie Bradshaw was known for her ability to effortlessly combine the most unexpected pairings to create unique and memorable outfits.

Experiment with different silhouettes and proportions to add dimension to your outfits. Like the style icon herself, try mixing voluminous skirts with form-fitting tops or pairing other oversized pieces with fitted items. For example, we always saw her wear body con dresses with blazers or oversized jackets.

Shoes were a key part of Carrie Bradshaw's style identity. Invest in statement shoes, like bold heels, flats, or patterned boots to add a touch of Carrie's signature style to your outfits. Snakeskin boots can even be styled with lavish fur coats, an iconic pairing worn by Carrie herself!

Have fun with colors. For example, pink, yellow and blue can all be worn together when worn with confidence. Carrie never failed to make colors that should not work together look meant to be!.

We cannot forget Ms. Bradshaw’s iconic tutu, a look completely unique to see on screen. Wearing a statement piece confidently and finding a way to dress a tutu down is very much her style.

Also, pairing a belt with an oversized white button up is simple, cute, and makes a morning after outfit look high end. We also see her pair a belt with a crop top, wearing a belt just on her skin. Carrie taught us that belts are not reserved for jeans or pants, but they can be worn with just about anything (or nothing).

Nobody can do a simple midi or maxi dress like Carrie. Some of her most iconic looks in the show featured a dress with a simple pair of heels. For her most bold looks, she paired a fur jacket or feather jacket with a body con, slip or sundress. She taught us that the answer to anything is to just throw a dress on.

"Sex and the City" had a significant cultural impact during the early 2000’s, particularly in terms of fashion. Carrie Bradshaw's unique style resonated with many, inspiring people to experiment with their own wardrobes and embrace fashion as a form of self-expression. Own your look and embrace your personal style with confidence, just like Carrie did. Confidence is everything. The essence of Carrie Bradshaw's style lies in her fearless approach to fashion. Fashion does not have to be a chore, but it can be a method of expression.
