The Rise of CeraVe

Being the most coveted skincare brand in the past few months, CeraVe is dermatologist recommended and quite affordable at its moderate price point. This sudden increase in popularity can be traced directly to the brand’s positive reception on TikTok, a highly celebrated video-sharing social media application. Some of the most well-respected skincare moguls on the platform have been recommending CeraVe to their followers. One notable influencer, Hyram Yarbro, has partnered with the brand in the past and swears by their products’ ability to do wonders for your skin. More recently, creators have started trying their products and posting positive reviews on the app. These recommendations and reviews have caused CeraVe’s sales to grow dramatically in the past few months.

TikTok has proven its power to boost the sales of products before. Back in May, it was revealed that Target sells a candle rumored to smell like Harry Styles – the candle section hasn’t been the same since. A similar act has been happening with CeraVe products, more specifically with their Renewing SA Cleanser. There is an empty spot where CeraVe once was in the skincare section of nearly every store that carries the brand. Although this new attention has been great for sales, the company has been struggling to keep up with this increased demand for their products.

Throughout my own search for quality skincare products, a few people have recommended CeraVe to me: my mom, my dermatologist, and some of my friends. In contrast, I didn’t see any factors about the brand that made it stand out against its competitors. To me, CeraVe was just another basic drug store face wash that could easily be exchanged for Neutrogena, Aveeno, or Clean & Clear. Nevertheless, there must be a reason why dermatologists and skincare experts stand by this brand over the others. So, what’s so special about CeraVe? One word: Ceramides.

Ceramides are lipids that are present in every CeraVe product. According to CeraVe, they are naturally produced by our bodies to “help form the skin’s barrier and help skin retain moisture.” In other words, they are essential to the health and protection of our skin. It’s very common for the ratio of ceramides in our skin to be depleted by outside factors, leaving our skin vulnerable to irritation. “Each and every one of Cerave’s products feature at least three types of essential ceramides to help restore the skin’s barrier.” Because the products use this natural ingredient, they are suitable for all skin types – which is why the brand is recommended by such a large number of people.

The growth of admiration for CeraVe has offered consumers a new perspective on skincare. When it comes to the beauty industry, we have been conditioned to believe that a high price, fancy name, and aesthetic product design equate to good quality. In reality, most alluring products are sometimes the worst for our skin – filled with complicated ingredients and harmful chemicals. Although CeraVe is fairly inexpensive and their product design is nothing special, dermatologists and skincare experts continue to recommend CeraVe products solely for their high quality and ability to transform our skin. It’s time we listen to them.
