The Untraditional Christmas Tree

My mom and I have a purple Christmas tree in our living room, covered in wacky ornaments like hippos, pigs and dinosaurs. It has a little sun as the tree topper rather than a star. We wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I think out-of-the-ordinary Christmas trees are underrated; the holidays do not always have to be the traditional hues of green, red and white. There are so many options to have fun decorating for Christmas in an artsy way. Pictured above and below are some awesome varieties of trees I found that remind me of the one in my living room or ones that just seem super underrated!

The Rainbow Tree

I get this may be a sensory overload of color, but this tree is amazing. Add some rainbow candy canes to finish it off and you have a statement piece of a tree in the middle of your living room. This tree also relieves you of the headache of picking a certain theme of ornaments because any color you buy will match!

Weird Ornaments

We all agree the most important part of a tree is the ornaments, not the presents that go under it. There’s no better way to make a tree stand out than by using a bunch of wacky ornaments. Ornaments don't always have to be of Santa Claus and reindeer; there are so many unique ornaments to put on the tree from little stuffed animals such as dragons and squids to random objects that aren’t even ornaments, like plastic bugs and party streamers.

An Orange Tree

Orange is the most underrated color in my opinion. If you like to take risks, an orange tree is perfect for you. It truly gives me a psychedelic 70s vibe and you could totally deck this out with a yellow or brown tree skirt, fake mushrooms, groovy flowers, and even little disco ball ornaments.

A Halloween Tree

If you’re like me and your favorite holiday is Halloween, or you just think The Nightmare Before Christmas is the superior holiday movie, a tree like this is essential. Who says your Christmas tree can’t be as goth as you?

A Christmas tree can be anything you want it to be. I think decorating for the holidays gives a great opportunity to get creative and go wild. Brightening up your home with little things that make you happy can not only help you feel a little better if the holidays are a tough time, but it’s a chance to explore how imaginative you can be.
