Trends that will never go out of Fashion

Throughout the decades, fashion trends have fallen in and out of style. As fashion has evolved over generations, even the words used to describe out-of-trend styles have changed. Baby boomers would describe these fashion fails as “used up.” Millennials used “basic” until it bled out, and now Gen-Z has crafted the term “chugey” to keep up to date.

Despite being seen as out of style, society often recycles previous trends to make them more current. Our generation is no stranger to this concept. Think of popular hair accessories now, such as scrunchies and claw clips, and the type of accessories we use to embellish our phones. All three of these trends have been around a lot longer than the people who sport them today. Here are my top 3, as I would like to say, “vintage pieces,” that I think will never truly go out of style!

Scrunchies: Born from the 80s

The once staple piece of an older Emma Chamberlain video is now discarded from the fashion trends of modern TikTok. However, I believe everyone needs a good scrunchie in their wardrobe, preferably a darker color that won’t stain easily that will blend into casual outfits as a bracelet. This trend soared in the 80’s and appeared in television shows like Full House and Saved By the Bell. Their return in the 2000’s was exciting for fashion forward experimentalists of all ages. Younger kids, teenagers, and even older generations were buying them out by the pack at all the local Claire’s.

Claw Clips: Born from My Mother

As a child, my mom would always use a clip instead of a scrunchie or hair tie because she hated the idea of pulling your precious strands out. Of course, most of us use clips today to keep up with the current trends. However, claw clips are a nostalgic accessory for me, reminding me of my childhood. Before cooking, before crafts, and especially before eating - use a clip.

Fashion icons, like Hailey Bieber and Kaia Gerber, have been seen sporting these accessories as street wear and on the runway as of Spring 2021. The versatility and ease that a clip has makes it wearable with any outfit and most hair textures. Bio-friendly companies are even crafting claw clips out of non-plastic, recyclable materials for the green girlies.

Phone accessories: Y2K Movement

As we see fashion icons, like Megan Fox and Paris Hilton, rave about low-rise jeans, I’d prefer a more iconic Y2K phone strap. Remember the ones you used to put on your D.S. or blackberry? They’re back. Today, you can find phone straps on Etsy as girls are beginning to make and craft these accessories again to highlight our most loved device, the cell phone. The phone strap supremacy arose again from TikTok this past year. Phone straps were even spotted on the wrists and in selfies of big names during this season’s Met Gala. Dua Lipa and Gigi Hadid were both seen sporting these iconic accessories during the event. With full hands and tiny purses, it’s no wonder comfortability is back in style.
