Beauty On A Budget

There’s one thing that’s not talked about enough in society, and that’s how much women, and people in general, spend on makeup.
According to data from Advanced Dermatology, women spend about $25 a month on makeup, meaning that on average, they’ll spend $300 per year.
As we all know, due to the “Pink Tax”, which makes products marketed for women more expensive than those marketed for men, makeup and cosmetics supplies can take a large toll on our finances.
It’s important to know which brands make new makeup products we can purchase that won’t break the bank.
The average woman in the U.S. spends over $300 a year on makeup. But what if you could get the same look for a fraction of the cost?
Luxury or high-end products from brands such as Armani, Dior, YSL, Tom Ford, Chanel, and others sell products that are over $50. And that is probably the lowest you can go. Usually, you can find foundations to range anywhere from $90-$150, Mascara $40-$60, and concealers $45-60 in the luxury market.
Makeup brands at Sephora or Ulta, which are two establishments most known for selling makeup, skincare, hair, and other cosmetic items to women, sell their products at a medium price. It’s not as expensive as luxury brands, but it’s also not cheap.
Brands like Fenty Beauty, Makeup by Mario, NARS, Too Faced, Rare Beauty, and Hourglass are usually sold there along with other popular name brands.
Their makeup products usually range from $25-$65 depending on the product.
Drugstore brands are most likely going to help alleviate us from the stress of overspending on makeup. Sometimes people find the low prices suspicious and think that the product might not be as good as others. However, there are drugstore brands that can have you looking just as ready to walk the red carpet.
Brands like e.l.f Cosmetics, which you can find at places like CVS, Walgreens, and Target, is arguably the most popular drugstore brand. It has taken the nation by storm in the past few years. They are known for creating dupes of expensive products and pricing them in the range of $5-$15.
People online speculate that the Halo Glow Liquid Filter product from e.l.f is will give the same refining touches as the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter. The Charlotte Tilbury product is $50, while the e.l.f product is only $15.
The brand, e.l.f, also made a dupe for the Supergoop sunscreen, or “Glow Screen.” It’s in the e.l.f Skincare line, and called “Suntouchable Whoa Glow” sunscreen. The Supergoop is $38, while the e.l.f is $15.
NYX Cosmetics is known best for its lip products, such as its lip liners and glosses.
User @jeselleleigh on TikTok called her NYX lip liner stain “the best lip liner you’re ever gonna use.” Prepare to have a long-lasting lip stain for just $6-$12.
The L’Oreal Paris foundations have gone viral in the past, with user @bysamijay on TikTok calling the Infallible Pro Glow her favorite full coverage foundation. “Honestly, no high-end product even compares,” the user said.
Maybelline’s concealers have been called dupes for the Nars concealers, as well as being called “full coverage” for only about $10.
Just like that, many makeup products can be found in more affordable ways. The price tag doesn’t yield better results.
Whether you’re splurging or saving, knowing where to invest your money can keep your makeup game strong without draining your wallet.
