Applying blush feels like eating a box of cookies, it’s so good you can’t stop eating it. As you look into the mirror while doing your makeup, one swatch of blush doesn’t seem to be enough, so you swatch more and more blush until your cheeks look as bright as tomatoes. Some might call this “blush blindness.”
We’ve moved on from the heavy bronzer era of the 2010s, and now blush is having its moment. It started
in 2020 with the indie kid aesthetic that was trendy on TikTok. Everything was saturated, bright, and eccentric.
To achieve the “indie girl” look, blush was placed across the face, from the cheeks to the nose for that sun-kissed effect. Stickers, and drawn on freckles were also placed across the cheeks and nose along with blush.
The clean girl makeup also jump started the blush trend. Clean girl makeup focused more on a natural and glowy look. Blush makes the face look more alive which balances the look.
After spending my precious time getting my face ready, I applied blush from the sides of my face down to my under eyes. I thought I was giving editorial, but when I met up with my friend, she took me to the bathroom, grabbed a paper towel and wiped some of my blush off , saying that it was giving “clown makeup’’. Honestly, it probably was because I got the placement and technique all messed up.
For a more smoother look, apply liquid blush on your cheeks and under eye. Then, apply concealer and blend it out. Apply your setting powder, then your pressed powder. Grab your powder blush and apply until your fingers turn pink. If you prefer a snatched and lifted look, apply the blush upwards from your cheekbones towards the temples and sides of your face. Don’t apply the blush below your nose, your face will look as if it's dragging down. If you want your cheeks to look plumed, keep the blush under your eye at the apples of your cheeks.
Remember that blush blindness doesn't really exist. There aren't any rules when it comes to makeup, but there are techniques that can make your makeup look flawless and suit your face.
