Every December, artists, collectors, celebrities, and tourists visit Miami to experience one of the world’s most influential cultural hubs. From life-size wooden elephants on the sands of Miami Beach to a 6.2 million dollar banana taped on a wall, Art Basel is a unique art fair where visitors can marvel at contemporary and modern art.

Founded in 1970 in Basel, Switzerland, Art Basel was created by gallerists to connect renowned galleries with collectors in one curated marketplace. As the event grew in popularity, the organization sought a location that was central to Latin America, North America, and the Caribbean. In 2002, Art Basel made its debut in Miami Beach. Today, the events, galleries, and installations are all across Miami, including Wynwood, the Design District, and Brickell.

What began as a single art fair quickly evolved into a city-wide celebration of fashion, culture, technology, and art that attracts more than 80,000 visitors each year and generates hundreds of millions in economic activity. Showcasing more than 285 leading galleries, here’s what you need to know about this year’s Art Basel.

Art Basel is returning December 5 to 7 at the Miami Beach Convention Center with a focus on Latinx, Indigenous and diasporic perspectives from over 40 countries. This year’s lineup features Gagosian, Pace Gallery, David Zwirner, and Hauser and Wirth, alongside influential Latin American galleries such as Galería OMR, Nara Roesler, and Kurimanzutto.

New artists and emerging galleries will also have a strong presence in sectors like Nova and Positions, offering visitors a chance to discover fresh, boundary-pushing artists. The diversity of participating galleries reflects the fair’s mission to highlight global perspectives while deepening its commitment to the cultures and communities that define the Americas.

As Miami prepares for another year of the creative craziness of Art Basel, the fair continues to shape the city’s artistic identity. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a Miami local, or a first-time visitor, this year promises a blend of innovation, community, and storytelling that reflects the ongoing evolution of contemporary and modern art.

Public days run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Tickets start at $88 for a single-day general admission pass. A “First Access” pass (allowing earlier entry) costs about $105. Reduced-price tickets (for Miami Beach residents, seniors, and veterans) are available at $68. VIP and multi-day packages are offered too, with pricing reflecting additional perks and early access.
