The Power of a Workout Class

Sculpted abs, rounded glutes, and biceps galore surround you. Intimidation, self-consciousness, and doubt are the only things flowing through your nervous system. You’re the unwitting victim and the suspect: The Gym.

When I first started working out more often, I had deemed the gym the scariest place in the world; full of people who seemed to have been ripped since birth, and lots and lots of expensive gym attire, you tend to stand out. It seems like everyone is staring at you, silently judging you for not knowing how to do a Bulgarian split squat properly.

This is where I introduce you to the power of a good workout class. While they can be pricey, unless you’re a college student and have the gift of campus rec fitness classes, they are one of the best ways to combat that intimidation that eats away at any motivation to move your body.

Workout classes range in variety by different types of workouts, such as pilates, yoga, kickboxing, cycling, etc, and are usually divided up by level. The best part: an instructor is teaching you exactly what to do the entire time. So, for those of you who are scared to start your fitness journey because you aren’t sure what to do, it’s the perfect opportunity to learn a few tips and tricks so that when you get out there on your own, you look like a pro.

For those shy gym goers, catch a spot in the back so that you don’t have to worry about people looking to you for form help. One of the great things about workout classes is that there are other people learning alongside you. Whether they’ve been taking the same class five days a week for the last year or this is their first time, there's a community formed in workout classes. People looking to move their bodies in a fun and encouraging way.

Speaking of encouragement, you got it! Just two more to go– build that BBL! The instructors have a master's degree in hyping you up and getting you to finish your workout to the best of your ability. The energy promotes strength and determination, building up your confidence not only in your ability to know what to do when you’re out on the gym floor but also in your ability to keep going when it gets difficult.

So if you’re looking to get into working out but are dreading the gym, book that group pilates class! The same goes for those of you who are used to going to the gym with headphones on and tuning out the world– see if the workout class community is something for you.

Oops, I’m gonna be late for my cycle class!
