In an astonishing display of structured balance and subtle eroticism, Haider Ackermann proves once again that he is the true successor to the “King of Sex” himself, Tom Ford. Reflecting hidden desires in the stunning hall of mirrors through which the models walk, Ackermann continues to push the envelope of sexuality in Tom Ford’s Spring/Summer 2027 Prêt-à-Porter collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Immediately clear from the first look is the marriage of structure and sensibility within the line. Ackermann creates ease within the movements of the garment, suggesting that we are catching the models in fragile moments. He implies that it is the moments of in between, the stillness in a stolen look back, or the crackle and pop of the air amidst waiting lips, that true sensuality can be felt.

Once again, Ackermann impresses the audience with his excellent tailoring and juxtaposition of the hard and soft, both in material and silhouette. He takes the timeless blazers that luxury fashion has seen iterations of for years, and through the careful eye of a clear Saint Laurent admirer, he cuts them to perfection.

The designer’s impeccable tailoring of suits and working of leather creates provocation within sexuality. Set against a backdrop of exposed skin, Ackermann brings to light the power of vulnerability. He says, “Sexuality does not need to shout… [it can be] a tremor under the skin.”

As the show progresses, so do the callbacks to the iconic satin that makes an appearance in countless Tom Ford collections. Specifically, the satin underpinnings drew even greater attention to the human form that Ackermann aims to highlight. The bralettes reign as a key design focus, paired with the aforementioned blazers for contrast at times, and at others with nothing but a sheer shift skirt, whispering promises of dangerous nights to come.

The beauty of these pieces lies in their simplicity. There is no loud pattern or bold embellishment screaming for attention. Instead, the eye is naturally drawn to the alluring spaces left in the slips of fabric, revealing hints of the seductive nature underneath.

Along with the obvious undercurrent of desire, there is a level of high-class humor present throughout the entirety of the line, teetering on the edge of audacity that is very reminiscent of the Tom Ford of the 80s and 90s. A male model emerges at the halfway point in a simple brown crewneck and bright pink thong, a risky palette cleanser to remind the audience of the playfulness tied to the whole affair.

The final stages of the show featured its most daring venture yet, as Ackermann does away with senseless teasing. He truly embraces the freedom within the body itself through a very scandalous swimsuit portion of the collection, cutting simple black pieces that meld onto the model, as if directly painted over the skin.

In his statement regarding the inspiration behind the collection, Ackermann stated, “Seduction is the pillar on which this house is built.” It is a sentiment that is felt in the careful tailoring and draping of each piece, sometimes more subtle than others, but always present. The reverence of sexuality is truly what pulls the entire line together, creating cohesion within the casual eroticism found in even the loungy sweatshirts. A masterclass in the quiet art of temptation, Tom Ford once again dominates as fashion's sexiest leading man.
