Why Role Model should Be Nominated for Best New Artist

With the Grammy Nomination being recently announced, the best new artist nominees are Addison Rae, Alex Warren, Katseye, Leon Thomas, Lola Young, The Marias, Olivia Dean, and Sombr.

While these artists are amazing, I feel as though ROLE MODEL and Tate McRae should have been a part of the nominees.

ROLE MODEL (Tucker Harrington Pillsbury) who is an alternative/indie rock singer/song writer, has marketed his music not like most artists, in the sense that he writes “break up” songs (His break up from Emma Chamberlain) though his personality reflects as an optimistic, hilariously sarcastic, and is undeniably himself or what most comment “not PR trained.” As mentioned his break up with famous youtuber Emma Chamberlain, gave a clear path for his success as people enjoyed to hear his sense of yearning and regret in ending the relationship. ROLE MODEL also has created fan interactions while performing such as “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out,” where fans were able to go on stage to be his “Sally.” As this interaction was purely fans, he began to bring famous artists and celebrities such as Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, and Renee Rap to be his “Sally.” ROLE MODEL has become an internet sensation, and has  recently been certified as the ‘PEOPLE’s first-ever Sexiest Man Alive centerfold.’ Gaining more recognition to the public spectacle. Overall ROLE MODEL has  major recognition with popular songs throughout social media and films such as “Regretting You.” ROLE MODEL is a popular figure within the music industry and deserves to be nominated for a grammy.

Similarly, Tate McRae is another internet sensation as her album has received much recognition along with a recent single “TIT FOR TAT” which was a diss to his ex boyfriend Kid LAROI as he wrote a song towards their breakup. Although her song received significant interest, most are unaware of her popularity as she danced competitively throughout her childhood, where she received the opportunity to dance alongside Justin Bieber during his Purpose World Tour, at the age of thirteen. As for her music stardom she began posting singing videos on YouTube during COVID-19 era, where she would eventually be given recognition. Through her talents of both singing and dancing she has grown to be a well known pop artist, who is constantly being compared to the queen of Pop, Britney Spears as she is able to bring the same energy and “pop star” vibes. In 2022 she was selected to be an opener for Shawn Mendes' Wonder Tour but was unfortunately cancelled due to Mendes’s mental health issues.  Even though opportunity was taken she is now headlining her own world tour called THINK LATER. Quite notably her performance for the VMAs was phenomenal, and truly memorable. Similarly to ROLE MODEL her music has also been mentioned in social media and films such as the recent F1 film. Overall Tate McRae is an amazing performer and pop star.

As a whole I believe that the nominations were not correctly selected as artists who have significant popularity and success rate should have been considered for a Grammy nomination. Not stating that those nominated are undeserving, rather I believe that ROLE MODEL and Tate McRae to name a few should have been considered, as they have more experience in the music world, as their dedication and persistence is and has been visible throughout their careers.
