Heated Rivalry on the Runway
The new show, Heated Rivalry, has gained so much attention recently from people all over the world, viewers can’t stop talking about it! The show has exploded super quickly, it’s been number one on HBO MAX since late November. Which is wild, since the cast mentioned that it took them less than two months to film the show in Canada. I've done my deep dive into the cast interviews and press. As a result I’m curious about the line between the characters and actors’ fashion tastes. Hudson Williams (plays Shane Hollander) recently walked the Dsquared2 runway.

GQ magazine stated that he wore, “apres-ski look of a layered jacket, scrunched leather pants, and -the Easter egg piece de resistance- a pair of shiny, hard ski boots that look an awful like ice skates.” Since the show is about ice hockey this look was perfect for Williams.
Williams and his co-star Conner Storrie, who played IIya Rozanov, both attended the Golden Globes this past weekend. Williams wore an “open chested Giorgio Armani number that featured a waist snatching cummerbund and a cheeky Bvlgari snake chain” (GQ Magazine). Storrie was wearing a “sleek Saint Laurent suit fit with a custom Tiffany & Co. brooch that slyly referenced the show” (GQ Magazine).

On screen, Willams and Storrie were usually wearing athletic wear so seeing them all dressed up was a welcome change. They would often wear compression shirts, sweat pants, and/or clothes that don’t involve wearing their team's uniform. Since they are playing ice hockey in the show and filming in Canada most of their outfits require them to be warm.
It’s crazy to think about how talented these two actors are, watching interviews, they are nothing like their characters. Williams is a very upbeat bubbly person, while in the show his character is very stand-offish and shy. People are saying that his character is supposed to show signs of being on the autism spectrum even though it’s not explicitly stated in the show itself. Storrie’s character is very charismatic, impulsive, and passionate. While Storrie is humble and kind, he also had to learn how to speak Russian for his character.
Ilya Rozanov dresses in a way that reflects a mix of Eastern European fashion sensibility and elite athlete confidence. Whereas Shane Hollander’s style isn’t about fashion, it’s about regulation, safety, and ease. It’s one of the most subtle and thoughtful ways the show communicates who he is. Both of their styles reflect who they are as characters within their personality.

Overall I love it when actors and characters are different from each other, and especially when it shows in their clothes. The two of them have an amazing dynamic on and off screen. This show is just the beginning, and I’m so ready to see what they do next!
